Privacy Policy
Effective date: June 12, 2026
Chattanooga Stinks Today is built so that it never collects personal data. This page explains exactly what the site does and doesn't handle.
What we store
When you submit a smell report, we store only:
- A map grid square roughly half a kilometre across (see below)
- Your smell rating (1–5)
- The time of the report
(Each report also gets an internal row number. It says nothing about you.)
Reports are shown on the map for 4 hours and deleted from our database within 24 hours.
What we never collect
No names, no email addresses, no accounts, no IP addresses, no device identifiers, no cookies, no analytics, no advertising trackers, no fingerprinting. There is nothing to sell and nothing to breach.
How location works
If you choose to report, your browser asks for permission to read your location. Your precise coordinates are used only inside your browser: before anything is sent to us, they are rounded to a grid square about half a kilometre across. Your exact location never leaves your device, and we could not reconstruct it if we wanted to.
Local storage
The site saves one value in your browser's local storage: the time you can next submit a report (we limit reports to one per 30 minutes). This stays on your device and is not a tracking cookie.
Service providers
The site runs on Cloudflare infrastructure. Like any host, Cloudflare processes connection details (including IP addresses) transiently to deliver the site, prevent abuse, and rate-limit submissions. We never see or store that information ourselves.
The background map is loaded from OpenStreetMap tile servers, so your browser requests map images directly from them; their privacy policy applies to those requests.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with an updated effective date.
